Relish X The Coffee Daily

Wild Rocket Burger Creamy Mushroom Linguine Serangoon Gardens is the Holland Village of the north-east. A cluster of shophouses loaded with restaurants, cafes, bars, as well as the hair salon I’ve been going to since I was seven  and ready to take on the world. We spent “Expensive Flower Day” there, away from freezing lecture theatres and offices, for food, coffee and quality time I could never get enough of. If you’re ever in the area, lunch at Relish with a coffee follow up at The Coffee Daily are places I’d recommend for a day date. And what a perfect lazy Sunday that would be. Relish is an astounding place for food photos (or photos in general), with majestic natural light pouring in and bouncing off their white brick walls onto the contrasting black tables, shelves and giant lampshades with a gorgeous floral underside. What a sight. Here, burgers are must-have. The wild rocket burger stars a moist patty slathered with a savoury sarawak pepper cream, plus cheese for an extra $1.80. We also had a …

Pasarbella @ The Grand Stand

Pasarbella doesn’t run parallel to London’s Borough Market or Fremantle in Perth. However, it did ooze mildly of their characteristic vibes. And with air-conditioning, of course.  On the whole, it was like a maze. A maze of temptations with beautiful crockery, jarred jams and minimalistic cakes on display. We found ourselves back at the exact same spot after turning a few corners before the might wave of realisation dawned upon me — that it just wasn’t as big as I thought it’d be. Still, there were tons to discover and it’s definitely a nice weekend escape. Plus if anyone is interested, the exit between the florist and the hot dog stall gives you a panoramic view of the rugby fields. The Cheese Ark – sells cheese and anything to with it. I’m talking cheese boards, crackers, wines and jams. On the same glossy brown paper that your chicken rice to-go comes wrapped with, 5 varieties of cheese sit in cubes for your sampling. If you’re not ready to commit to an entire block of cheese, …

Oventures: Brownie Muffins

I woke up this morning with the intention to bake a full tin of fudge brownies but we didn’t have any baking tins, just a cupcake tray. And just as I was scouring for recipes online, I came across Happy Home Baking’s Chocolate Chips Brownie Muffins recipe. Perfect! The last time I tried baking Nutella muffins, it was quite the disaster. It turned out pretty bland and would have been better of as a sponge for the dishes. (Though Cliff later slabbed on some actual nutella and said they were fine.) I would blame the old cranky oven but like my PE teacher back in JC always said, “don’t blame the equipment, it’s not the equipment’s fault.” — I guess that would apply here too? What I’m trying to say is, though they were just muffins, I was really nervous. Especially with my mom peering over my shoulders every 5 minutes. Anyhoo, one of my favourite parts of baking these babies was melting the butter, sugar and finally throwing squares of potently addictive dark chocolate into …
